Congress petitions NCW on violence at BHU

Mahila Congress president Sushmita Dev, in a letter to the chairperson of the commission, alleged a nexus between the local police and BHU authorities.

The Congress has petitioned the National Commission for Women, demanding action on the recent violence and lathi-charge on the girl students of Banaras Hindu University.

The opposition party has urged NCW to evoke its statutory powers and ask the Yogi Adityanath government to demand an explanation from the vice chancellor and police on their questionable conduct, including allowing male police personnel to roam around the premises of the girls’ hostel and shaming of the victims.
