"Azad is not the first leader to resign from Congress. From Kashmir to Kanyakumari and Kutch to Guwahati, leaders are deserting Congress. The party is only protecting one family and any senior leader will feel ignored and humiliated in such a party," BJP general secretary and party incharge of J&K Tarun Chug told ET.
Chug, however, denied that the resignation has anything to do with BJP. "It is Congress' internal matter. We can't comment on that."
When asked whether BJP would ally with Azad if he would launch his own party, Chug said it was for Azad to decide, not BJP.
J&K BJP core committee, which met in Delhi on Friday, discussed party's election preparedness among other things. Apart from Chug, Union minister Jitendra Singh, Jammu and Kashmir BJP chief Ravinder Raina, Devender Singh Rana and others were present at the meeting. After the meeting at the party office, all the leaders went to meet Union home minister Amit Shah at his residence.
Party sources told ET that senior BJP leaders would soon visit the Union Territory.
