New Delhi: The Congress on Saturday appointed Julfikar Ali as the leader of the Congress Legislature Party in West Bengal.

The party also named Motab Shaikh as the deputy leader of its legislature party in the state, a party statement said.

Ali and Shaikh are the Congress' only two MLAs in the West Bengal Assembly.

The party won just two seats in the Assembly elections held earlier this year -- Raninagar, represented by Ali, and Farakka represented by Sheikh -- both in the Murshidabad district.
