Congress mum on Rahul Gandhi's elevation
NEW DELHI: A day after AICC general secretary Digvijaya Singh told ET that Rahul Gandhi must take over as Congress president and Sonia Gandhi can act as party mentor and UPA chairperson, there were mixed reactions in the Grand Old Party.

The front-ranking organisational leaders of the AICC were conspicuous by their silence on Singh’s stand, which he reiterated on Saturday. The official spokesperson described Singh’s remarks as his personal view but chose not to criticize it.

Most of the AICC general secretaries skipped the party office to avoid the media. ET had reported that many senior leaders besides Singh have conveyed similar views to the Gandhis recently.

A senior AICC leader, who had publicly differed with Singh’s many past comments, on Saturday said privately that he didn’t think Singh said anything wrong.
