BHOPAL: Congress MP Sajjan Singh Verma has urged the Election Commission to conduct the Lok Sabha polls using ballot papers instead of Electronic Voting Machines due to possibility of technical glitches in such machines.

The EVMs often encountered technical problems, as was evident in the recently-held Assembly elections in five states where many voters could not exercise their franchise and re-polling had to be conducted at many booths, Verma said last evening while addressing a meeting in Madhya Pradesh's Agar Malwa district.

The US had withdrawn EVMs much before due to technical problems in such machines, the MP said, while urging the Chief Election Commissioner to conduct Lok Sabha elections through ballot paper instead of EVMs in his Dewas parliamentary constituency.

Earlier, a few political parties had also raised the issue of technical problems in use of EVMs.
