BENGALURU: The lone Congress MP from Karnataka, D K Suresh, on Wednesday demanded a judicial inquiry into the death of CCD founder VG Siddhartha and the allegations of “tax terrorism”. He urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to appoint a senior Supreme Court judge to monitor the investigation.

“Siddhartha’s death is shocking. He is one of the good entrepreneurs in the country and son-in-law of our leader SM Krishna (former Chief Minister and former Foreign Minister). Siddhartha is well known to people of Karnataka. He gave jobs to more than one lakh Kannadigas,” DK Suresh said.

The MP blamed “tax terrorism” as a reason behind Siddhartha’s death. “He (Siddhartha) addressed two issues in the letter: One, he wanted to sell the shares, first concerning Mindtree and later CCD, to other companies but the income tax people did not give him permission. Tax terrorism is going on in the country. It’s not right. We urge the union government to appoint judicial enquiry with senior supreme court judge,” the Congress leader said.

While expressing condolences, Former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Karnataka Congress President Dinesh Gundu Rao and Congress leader D K Shivakumar also demanded a high-level inquiry into the death of Siddhartha.

“The death of V G Siddhartha is both disturbing & mysterious. The reasons and the invisible hands that ended his life in this tragic way should be unearthed through impartial & fair investigation. Our party and I shall always stand with Shri. S M Krishna in their fight for justice,” Siddaramaiah tweeted. He blamed the government for favouring few crony capitalists instead of making it a level playing field for compassionate visionaries.
