Congress lends support to NPF candidate in the Lok Sabha by-election seat
As the political winds change direction after events in Karnataka, the Congress party in Nagaland has decided to support the NPF candidate in a forthcoming by-election.

The seat fell vacant after Chief Minister N Rio stepped down.
K Therie, President of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), told an election rally at Pfustero that his party’s concern was to save Nagaland from communal forces, and that is why it decided to support the NPF candidate.
Congress, which ruled Nagaland for several years, could not manage to win a single seat in the recently held assembly elections.
Therie shared a common platform with Apok along with a host of other NPF leaders at Pfutsero under Phek district.
BJP’s ally Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has fielded Tokheho Yepthomi as the candidate.
Already NPF leader and former Chief Minister, T R Zeliang had stated, “NPF party will stake claim before the Governor to form the government on the merit of our case as being the single largest party. Why should different laws be applied in different states on the same matter?”
NPF had won 27 seats in the Assembly election. Four NPF MLAs are supporting the BJP led government in Manipur.
