Congress leads in Manipur

The ruling Congress is leading in 21 seats and trends suggest that the grand old party is likely to retain power in the state for third consecutive term.

Amidst tight security cover, counting of ballots for the Manipur assembly began at 8 am on Tuesday. The ruling Congress is leading in 21 seats and trends suggest that the grand old party is likely to retain power in the state for third consecutive term.

Congress has won two seats. Dr. Chaltonlien Amo` of Congress has won from Tipaimukh seat with 4551 votes.

Trinamool Congress is leading in one seat while opposition front of 11 political parties, People’s Democratic Front (PDF) is leading in 2 while others are leading in 7 seats. The state has 60 assembly seats.

Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and minister K Ranjit of Congress were leading from Thoubal and Sugnu seats.

Singh was leading against rival O Indira of BJP by 120 votes while Ranjit Singh was leading against his rival M Binod of Manipur People's Party.
