Congress leaders stopped from visiting riot hit areas

A delegation of senior Congress leaders was stopped by the district administration from visiting the riot affected areas in the city where curfew was imposed.

INDORE: A delegation of senior Congress leaders was stopped by the district administration here from visiting the riot affected areas in the city where curfew was imposed on July 3 after violence during VHPs bandh call.

AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh, Narayansami, MPCC chief Suresh Pachouri, party's campaign Committe chairman Ajai Singh and Union Minister Kantilal Bhuria were stopped by the district administration at the Devi Ahilya Airport from visiting the affected areas on the plea that it would not help in restoring normalcy.

The Congress delegation was not allowed to leave the airport premises

Talking to reporters in Bhopal, leader of Opposition Jamuna Devi said Congress leaders had gone to visit the riot affected families and personally see as to what happened on July 3 which led to killing of six persons and large scale violence, in which the party alleged that saffron party activists were involved.

Devi demanded immediate release of senior party leaders and providing them curfew passes to visit the riot affected areas and meet the families.

After the press conference ended she staged a sit-in before chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's Official residence in supprt of her demand.

Blaming ruling party for the violence and killing of innocent persons on the shut down day, Pachouri said the BJP government was attempting to play politics in the guise of the communal riots and asserted that the party leaders would not return without meeting the affected families.
