Congress leader Rahul Gandhi backs Tamil film star-turned-politician Vijay in movie row with Centre

New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday attacked the Centre for the delay in releasing Tamil film star-turned-politician Vijay's movie 'Jana Nayagan', which is currently caught in a row with the censor board.



Gandhi's move, besides amounting to extending support to Vijay's fight for the release of his movie, also comes at a time when a section of the Congress favours keeping the option of an electoral alliance with Vijay's TVK open even as the Congress has a formal alliance with the DMK both at the state and national levels. DMK chief and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin also, a few days ago, criticised the Centre over the delay in releasing Vijay's movie.


"The I&B ministry's attempt to block 'Jana Nayagan' is an attack on Tamil culture. Mr Modi, you will never succeed in suppressing the voice of the Tamil people," Gandhi said in a social media post.
