Congress is anti-Ambedkar and distorting my statement, says Amit Shah
Union Home Minister Amit Shah refuted Congress's accusations of distorting his remarks on BR Ambedkar, asserting the debate exposed Congress's anti-Ambedkar stance. Shah dismissed calls for his resignation by Congress chief Kharge, predicting the...
Facing attack from the opposition over his statements, with Congress chief and Rajya Sabha opposition leader Mallikarjun Kharge demanding his resignation, Shah said," Kharge ji is asking for my resignation. If it would have made him happy, I would have resigned, but it will not end his problems because he will have to sit in the same place (in the opposition) for the next 15 years."
Shah flanked by four Union ministers - JP Nadda (also BJP chief), Piyush Goyal, Kiren Rijiju and Ashwini Vaishnaw - addressed a press conference at the party headquarters and tried to take the battle back to Congress, saying that it was left with no answer following the discussion in Parliament, as it was established that Congress mistreated BR Ambedkar.
The Congress has adopted the tactic of misrepresenting and distorting statements, including those of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and then creating an uproar to mislead people, Shah said asserting that his address in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday was clear and without any confusion, and is on the record of the House.
Shah underlines that he comes from a party and an ideology that can never insult the architect of the Constitution and his ideas, not "even in dreams".
In his presser, Shah repeatedly requested media to present the facts about his speech and reiterated series of the BJP's charges against the Congress, including its campaign to defeat Ambedkar in polls.
