Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday constituted an "empowered action group of leaders and experts" to monitor the conduct of elections by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to look into the alleged "manipulation" in the voter list in Maharashtra and to subsequently analyse the voting pattern and data of recent elections.

The move coincides with the Congress targeting the style of functioning of the current dispensation in the ECI and alleging electronic voting machine (EVM) tampering and other irregularities in the recent elections in Haryana and Jharkhand, besides Maharashtra.

Senior party leader Digvijaya Singh, who has been a long-time campaigner against the alleged EVM tampering, AICC treasurer Ajay Maken and party's legal eagle Abhishek Manu Singhvi are among the nine members of the committee.
