Congress for CBI probe into illegal mining in MP
The Madhya Pradesh unit of Congress said it will approach the Centre, seeking a CBI probe into the alleged illegal mining activities in the state.
"The central investigation agency (CBI) can probe the large-scale illegal mining activities in Madhya Pradesh, just like in Andhra Pradesh," leader of the opposition in Madhya Pradesh Assembly Ajay Singh said, adding that the party is planning to approach the Centre next week in this regard.
He said during the recent discussion in the state Assembly on the no-confidence motion, the Congress had raised specific issues about corruption but the government shied away from replying to the charges.
Singh said Janata Dal United president Sharad Yadav has also alleged there was rampant illegal mining in Madhya Pradesh.
He also alleged there was corruption in the implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme ( MNREGA) in the state.
He said even though many states had already appointed ombudsmen to check corruption in MNREGA, the Madhya Pradesh government was delaying it, saying Lokayukta had already been appointed.
