Congress has criticised the Census questionnaire for not explicitly including an OBC category and demanded a Telangana-like caste census, warning that the current open-ended caste field could yield unusable OBC data.
New Delhi: Congress has once again asked why the official census questionnaire on the social background of people only mentioned "Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes/caste" and did not specifically add OBCs as well.

Congress expressed apprehension that this might result in nonworkable data of OBCs during enumeration.

"The census has begun, but it lacks a crucial column for the OBC category. In the questionnaire of the form released on August 14, it simply says 'SC/ST/Caste," Anil Jaihind, chairman of the AICC OBC cell, said at a press conference on Monday. "This means when the enumerator asks the heads of families about their castes through this open-ended question of 'caste', the data thus procured will be cluttered and nonworkable," he claimed.

The OBCs will oppose it, he said, and demanded a "Telangana-like" caste census.
