Congress party in Assam filed a police complaint against BJP for alleged AI-generated videos in social media platforms. Congress alleged that the videos have targeted Assam Pradesh Congress Committee President Gaurav Gogoi and Muslim community.

The complaint was filed in Dispur police station. Party’s spokesperson Bedabrata Bora said that AI-generated videos are targeting to communally divide Assam. This has come ahead of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) polls scheduled for September 22.

The Congress urged police to impose relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, including 109 (Abetment), 196 (Promoting enmity between different groups), 197 (Assertions prejudicial to national integration), and 299 (Deliberate and malicious acts to outrage religious feelings), among others.

The videos in circulation in social media alleging threat from illegal immigrants, there are taglines in the videos which says "Assam without BJP” and AI-generated images depicting “Muslims taking over Guwahati, the airport, stadium, tea estates and the Rang Ghar amphitheatre.”

Assam is slated to go to assembly polls early next year. The videos, besides asking people to vote carefully, have termed Gogoi as “paijan”. This term is often used by the BJP targeting Gogoi alleging his links with Pakistan’s ISI.

Gogoi said, “These words and images will have no meaning in Assam. “Our party aims to create “a society of pilots, engineers, doctors, entrepreneurs, bankers and business owners.”

He added, “In Greater Assam ‘Bor Axom’ there is no scope for hate and everyone is treated with respect.”

State Information and Public Relations Minister Pijush Hazarika stated in X, “So shameless @INCAssam has filed a case against me for speaking against illegal infiltrators . I won’t be cowed down. For speaking against demographic change they are intimidating us. Imagine if this Miya party comes to power - what will happen to our culture?."

He added, “As I said yesterday, democracy cannot be confined to one community, it must embrace all. But what we witnessed in Assam today is shocking.

@INCAssam is campaigning in Bodoland with Miya songs. This is neither Assamese, Bodo, indigenous nor even Bengali culture; it’s borrowed straight from across the border! Why? Is there a hidden agenda to undermine our identity? The people of BTR, Assam and Bharat will never accept this assault on our culture.”

Bengali speaking Muslims are often referred as Miya Muslims. Muslims comprise 34% of the 3.12 crore population of Assam, of which 4% are indigenous Assamese Muslims and the remaining mostly Bengali-speaking Muslims.

AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi has slammed the Assam BJP for posting a "disgusting" AI video that depicts a Muslim-majority Assam if there was no BJP.

The Hyderabad MP in a post on 'X', alleged that the very existence of Muslims in India is a problem for the saffron party, and "their dream is a Muslim-mukt Bharat".

"BJP Assam has posted a disgusting AI video that shows a Muslim-majority Assam if there was no BJP. They are not fear-mongering just for votes, this is the repulsive Hindutva ideology in true form," Owaisi said, referring to the Assam BJP's AI video.

"The very existence of Muslims in India is a problem for them, their dream is a Muslim-mukt bharat. Besides this constant whining, they've no vision for India," Owaisi added.
