Congress endorses Chidambaram's threat

NEW DELHI: Hardening its position against Pakistan���s non-cooperation in fight-ing perpetrators of the Mumbai terror strikes, the Congress on Wednesday ���fully backed and endorsed��� the home minister���s stand that New Delhi may be forced to snap ties with Islamabad.

The move comes in the wake of a growing feeling in the ruling establishment that New Delhi may have to resort to a series of steps like snapping trade relations, restricting visa facilities and downgrading diplomatic ties with Pakistan to register New Delhi���s growing impatience and anger.

The AICC went a step further by saying that if Pakistan continues to extend a protective shield to those who foment terrorism, even the world powers may have to join India in snapping ties with Islamabad.

"The Congress party is fully backing and endorsing what home minister P Chidambaram has said. We want Pakistan to walk the talk. But during the past 50 days since the attack on Mumbai, all that Pakistan has been doing is to indulge in stalling and fudging investigation and evidences. This double standards will not work," Congress spokesperson Manish Tiwari said.
