Prime Minister Narendra Modi yet again came down heavily on "infiltration from Bangladesh" and attacked Congress, saying that the party wants to settle Bangladeshi infiltrators in Assam to strengthen its vote bank.

Addressing a public meeting at Namrup in Assam, the PM accused Congress of encouraging 'anti-national' activity of infiltrators. "Illegal infiltrators are closer to them as they strengthen their vote banks. Congress is more concerned about votes, power and governments than the pride of Assamese identity. It is Congress that settled these illegal infiltrators and now they are protecting them. This is the reason Congress is against cleansing the electoral rolls. They are more interested in appeasement politics."

Modi on Saturday alleged: "In Bengal and Assam, Congress supported infiltrators. It conspired to change the demography of Assam."
