Congress emerges as the single largest party in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council polls

BJP has won two seats; the party is a part of the ruling coalition in Meghalaya. Garo National Council won one seat.

Three remaining seats were secured by independent candidates.
While Congress has emerged as the single largest party in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) of Meghalaya, the ruling National People's Party (NPP) won 11 seats.

BJP has won two seats; the party is a part of the ruling coalition in Meghalaya. Garo National Council won one seat.

Three remaining seats were secured by independent candidates.


Congress MLA and former minister, Ampareen Lyngdoh tweeted, “The @INCMeghalaya has emerged as the single-largest party in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council elections, with 12 out of 29 seats. My congratulations to the candidates and team. We won this election overwhelmingly despite the huge amount of money by other parties.”

Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K.Sangma and former chief minister and congress leader, Mukul Sangma both come from Garo hills.

The Congress won- Kharkutta, Rongrong, Williamnagar, Boldamgre, Samandagre, Dengnakpara, Shyamnagar, Betasing, Amongpara, Batabari and Balachanda.

NPP wrested Nogorpara, Siju, Bolsong, Darugre, Gasuapara, Silkigre, Babelapara, Naguapara, Raksamgre, Jengjal and Asanang.

The BJP clinched Barengapara and Tura, while the GNC won Rongrikimgre. Independent candidate Arbinestone Marak won from Rochonpara seat.
