Congress denies Ajay Maken's resignation, says he is on medical leave

In May 2017, he had resigned to former party president Sonia Gandhi after Congress` “unsatisfactory performance” in Delhi civic polls.
Congress has issued a clarification saying Delhi Congress chief, Ajay Maken, has not resigned, but is on a week-long medical leave. Earlier today, there were reports that he had handed over his resignation as the state chief, citing health reasons.

Congress leader, PC Chacko, in a tweet clarified that he is on a week-long medical leave and will probably be back next week.

Reports also suggested that Ajay Maken had written to Congress president Rahul Gandhi that he is unwell. Mr Maken was also said to have left for treatment abroad.


In May 2017, he had resigned to former party president Sonia Gandhi after Congress` “unsatisfactory performance” in Delhi civic polls. He, however, took it back after current party chief Rahul Gandhi, the then Congress Vice-President, convinced him to continue as the Delhi Congress chief.


Maken was the youngest Union Cabinet Minister from the Congress Party for Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation between 2012–13, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Sports and Youth Affairs between 2011–12, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs between 2009-2011, Union Minister of State for Urban Development between 2006-2007.
