Congress demands sacking of Arunachal Pradesh Governor, apology from PM Modi, Amit Shah

NEW DELHI: Buoyant over the Supreme Court order, restoring the Congress state government in Arunachal Pradesh which was sacked by the Modi government, the AICC has demanded the immediate sacking of the State Governor and apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah.

"The Supereme Court has struck down the Centre's unconstitutional toppling of the Congress government of Arunachal Prasad. We salute the court order. At the same time, we demand the immediate sacking of the Governor of the State. The Congress also demands apology from Prime Minister Modi and BJP president Amit Shah for their undemocratic and unconstitutional approach", Congress leader Randeep Surjewalla told ET.

As the SC order came close on the heels of a similar restoring of the dismissed Congress government in Uttarakhand, it's double whammy for the Modi government and BJP. Surjewalla said, with today's court order BJP plans to prop up a party coordination committee in North-East to target Opposition ruled state governments has come a cropper.

With Supreme Court restoring the second Congress state government that Modi government had toppled, AICC is planning to rally opposition parties in Parliament against Centre's misuse of Article 356 in opposition-ruled States. Congress calculates, apex court ruling will sap the confidence and energy of Centre and BJP to try and topple more state governments.

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi said in a tweet; “Thank you Supreme Court for explaining to the Prime Minister what democracy is.”

A jubilant Nabam Tuki, whose state government now stands restored, said "We have got justice from the Supreme Court, it has today saved this country and its Constitution. It is a historic and remarkable judgment which was expected by the people of country."
