Congress demands report on Khalkho case be tabled in Assembly
Police had claimed that Meena was a Naxalite and had been killed in retaliation, after the police party was attacked.

RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh Congress has demanded that the judicial commission's report on Meena Khalkho's alleged fake encounter case be tabled in the state Assembly during the monsoon session.
Congress Legislative Party leader T S Singhdeo has in a letter to Chief Minister Raman Singh sought to furnish the commission's findings over killing of the minor tribal girl - Khalkho - in an alleged fake encounter in 2011, on the floor of the House on the first day of the monsoon session.
The state Assembly's monsoon session would be held from July 20 till July 31.
"The commission's report was submitted in April this year, but so far the state government has not made it public, which is leading to speculations and rumours in public and social media. It should be kept in public domain so that people of the state may know about the findings," the Leader of Opposition in Chhattisgarh Assembly said in the communique.
"Earlier also I had demanded to make public the judicial commission's report, through letters. Now I am demanding to table it in the Assembly," Singhdeo said.
The 16-year-old tribal girl was killed in an alleged encounter by a team of policemen from Chando police station near Karcha village in Balrampur district, then Surguja district, on July 6, 2011.
Police had claimed that Meena was a Naxalite and had been killed in retaliation, after the police party was attacked.
Meena's family members, residents of Nawadih village, had denied that any encounter had taken place on that day and accused the police of staging the fake encounter.
In the wake of the allegations and protest by her family and human rights activists, the government had constituted a judicial commission to probe the incident.
The single member commission headed by District and Sessions Judge (Retd) Anita Jha had submitted the report on the incident in April this year.
The commission had in its report recommended the government to re-investigate the incident and take necessary action, following which the state's Crime Investigation Department had lodged a fresh offence under sections 302 (murder) and 34 (common intention) of IPC into the case and begun the probe.
The fresh probe is underway under the supervision of Assistant Inspector General, CID, Neha Champawat.
