Congress demands Central rule in Karnataka

BANGALORE: The Congress on Monday stepped up its campaign for dismissal of the H D Kumaraswamy ministry, saying "it has been reduced to a minority".
AICC General Secretary Prithviraj Chavan, who had an hour-long meeting with Governor Rameshwar Thakur, later told reporters that the party had demanded that the Kumaraswamy government be dismissed immediately in the wake of its coalition partner BJP withdrawing support.
"The Kumaraswamy government cannot remain in office as it has been reduced to a minority" Chavan said.
In a related development, a delegation of Congress leaders headed by N Dharam Singh called on the Governor for the second time since yesterday and demanded imposition of Central rule and dismissal of the present minority government.
In a significant move, Congress MLAs submitted individual letters to the Governor, stating that they would not support any government other than the one formed by the party.
The decision to hand over such letters to Thakur was taken at a meeting Chavan had with his party leaders last night, sources in the Congress said.
After the JDS betrayed it on power transfer, the BJP withdrew support to the Kumaraswamy government yesterday.
