NEW DELHI: The Congress today demanded the resignation of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on "moral and ethical grounds" for "trying to shield" Law Minister Jitendra Singh Tomar, who is embroiled in a court case for allegedly possessing a fake Law Degree.

It also reiterated its demand for the sacking of Tomar and said it would hold "continuous agitation" all over the state to press for his removal.

"Kejriwal should resign on moral and ethical grounds. He always takes a high moral ground, but is trying to shield Tomar. We demand his resignation from the post of Delhi Chief Minister," Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) Chief Spokesperson Sharmistha Mukherjee told reporters here.

"Morally, ethically, Tomar should not continue as the Law Minister. We have been demanding his resignation. We will now hold continuous agitation all over Delhi to demand his removal," she said.

Mukherjee said demonstrations will be held at every nook and corner of Delhi to make people aware about Tomar's fake degree case and seek his immediate removal.

Pointing out that the matter is sub-judice and "Tomar may try to influence the probe" going on against him by remaining on the important position, she said he should immediately step down till the verdict is out in the case.

"Tomar cannot absolve himself of the charges by writing to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. He should step down first and then do such things. If he gets a clean chit he may resume his post," she said.
