MUMBAI: One of Shiv Sena’s senior most leaders and sitting member of the Lok Sabha, Chandrakant Khaire surprised many on Sunday by touching Sena’s youth wing chief Aditya Thackeray’s feet on a public dais before thousands of people in Aurangabad . The Congress targeted Khaire for alleged sycophancy and claimed that Khaire was doing this to ensure a ticket for him in the upcoming polls.

On Sunday, Khaire attended a function organised by Maharashtra MLA Pradeep Jaiswal, where spiritual leader Bhayyu Maharaj and Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray’s 23-year-old son Aditya Thackeray were on the stage. When Khaire went on the dias, he was seen and photographed touching Aditya’s feet.

Congress MLA from the area Kalyan Kale said, "This is nothing but culture of sycophancy which the Sena thrives on. Khaire is doing this only to ensure a ticket for himself in the upcoming elections” . Sena spokesperson Neelam Gorhe defended the 63-year-old party veteran . “Khaire was seen greeting all those sitting on the stage. It is his personal choice," she said.
