NEW DELHI: The Congress Core Committee on Friday authorised the party's highest decision-making body - the Congress Working Committee -- to take the final decision on Telangana statehood. This was announced by AICC general secretary in-charge Digvijaya Singh after a meeting of the party's core committee on Telangana issue attended by the chief minister, deputy chief minister and PCC president of Andhra Pradesh.

"The core committee has decided that the CWC will take the final call on the issue", Digvijaya Singh told reporters after attending a meeting with Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, Rahul Gandhi and other big Central and state leaders.

The core committee deciding to build up the Telangana momentum was on expected lines as the party high command, according to sources, is waiting to announce its final decision after the lifting of model code of conduct in Andhra by the last week of July, when the state completes panchayat elections. Incidentally, the monsoon session of Parliament, in which government has to bring a resolution in case it opts for creating Telangana state, is scheduled to meet only in August.
