GUWAHATI: With Manipur surcharged following the United Naga Council (unc) sponsored blockade on its highway and reactionary violence ruling congress is comfortable if the assembly polls to 60 member state assembly is held in before March.

The term of the present assembly ends in March 18, 2017. BJP however wants the economic blockade which is continuing in two highways to end before the polls. BJP wants the election to be delayed.

Election commission of India is keeping close watch on the strife torn law and order situation of Manipur.

Congress government’s decision of creation of seven new districts in Manipur has invited economic blockade from UNC since November 1. UNC feels this is encroachment on its ancestral land.

There were violence and curfew was clamped in Imphal after protesters angry with prolonged blockade torched several vehicles, two churches were also set ablaze.

Congress has unleashed a campaign that UNC sponsored blockade has support of militant outfit, NSCN-IM. Congress is trying to position itself as the protector of territorial integrity of the state.

AlCC secretary Bhupen Bora said, “We are fully prepared for election. We want the election to be held on time, as the assembly completes it term on March.”
