Congress charges government with 'letting down' SC students
PUDUCHERRY: The opposition Congress today accused the Rangasamy led AINRC government here of 'letting down' Scheduled Caste students by not providing them jobs after they pass out of higher education institutions.

PCC president, A Namassivayam, MLA, said in a release here that the government, instead of assuring SC students jobs after graduation by utilising loans given through the corporation for welfare of Adi Dravidar community, was now on a drive to collect the loans.

Those who stood surety for loans drawn by these students were also facing hardships from the official machinery.

Namassivayam demanded that government waive the loans and provide jobs to the students.

He alleged that funds earmarked under the special component plan (a sub plan) for welfare of SCs were diverted to other schemes.

Namassivayam said that if the government persisted in its current drive to collect the loans and also to 'initimdate' those who stood surety for the students,Congress workers would stage a demonstration at the Corporation office here.
