Congress cautions government against 'going overboard' on army action against insurgents
NEW DELHI: Amid reports that Indian army's reported entry into Mynamar for anti-insurgency operations could complicate matters, Congress today cautioned government against "going overboard" on the sensitive issue.

"Indian Army has never said it has entered into Mynamar...What we would like to say that such things should never be politicised. We should not go overboard about such sensitive issues", party spokesman Ajay Maken told reporters.

His remarks came in the backdrop of a tweet by Union Minister Rajyavardhan "Indian army strikes into the heart of militants. Desh ke dushmano ko karara jawab. Kushal netritva, mazboot sarkar PM@narendramodi #56inchRocks."

In the run up to general elections last year, PM Modi, challenging Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav, had used a 56-inch reference and said "you don't have the guts to turn UP into Gujarat. It takes a 56-inch chest."

Maken steered clear of questions on the tweet. At the same time, the senior Congress leader said that there was an agreement between India and Mynamar in 2010 over the issue of tackling insurgents following a meeting between senior Indian Home Ministry official and a Mynamarese commander.

Maken gave all the credit for the operation to the Indian Army and the jawans.

Another party spokesman Abhishek Singhvi tweeted: "Myanmar operation by our army is a slap on the face to insurgents. Commend the swiftness of action & boldness of act"

"Problem with Myanmar type actions which I support is that after huge adrenalin run, one hs to be super prepared for retaliatory action", he said through another tweet.
