PANAJI: The Congress party in Goa blamed the BJP for the fiasco over the construction of sports infrastructure for the forthcoming Lusofonia Games, which now stands postponed from this year to January 2014.

"Don't make Goa a laughing stock internationally. BJP government had one and half years to complete infrastructure like stadiums for the games, but failed to do so," Congress MP Francisco Sardinha told reporters today.

"Why was the infrastructure not ready? The government had enough time for it," Sardinha said.

When it was pointed out that the Congress-led Goa government delayed constructing the same infrastructure for three years, Sardinha reacted, "I have not applied my mind on it."

Lusofonia Games, a Portuguese Commonwealth event, was scheduled to be held in Goa in November this year, but has been postponed to January next year, since the required infrastructure is not in place.

Around 12 nations are expected to participate in these games which would be held at over six venues including the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium at Fatorda.
