THIRUVANATHPURAM: The Congress in Kerala today set in motion a comprehensive exercise to revamp the organisation in all tiers with the formation of booth-level committees across the state as part of the first phase of the process.

According to party sources, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, KPCC president V M Sudheeran, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala and other leaders participated in the process in their home units to choose office-bearers for the grassroot-level committees.

The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee had earlier drawn up a schedule to complete reorganisation of the party units up to the district committees by this month end.

The KPCC had issued circulars to all units that apportioning of party positions on "group-basis" should be avoided strictly and that disciplinary action would be taken against those violating this critical norm.

The guidelines also insisted on guarding against the possibilities of persons with criminal background getting into the party committees.

Also, it had asked the party workers to prefer for new faces in place of those who had been holding positions far too long and ensure due representation for youth and women.
