Congress Assam MP Bhubneswar Kalita resigns from Rajya Sabha
Though Kalita has not cited any reason for his decision to quit, he told media persons in New Delhi that he is still part of the Congress party and will divulge details regarding his resignation later.

Kalita’s term as Upper house member will end next year;
Kalita unsuccessfully contested the last Lok Sabha polls from Mangaldoi Lok Sabha constituency. He was defeated by BJP’s Dilip Saikia.
A leader in Congress party who did not want to named told ET: “Kalita was party’s chief whip in Upper house and unhappy with affairs of the party especially the party’s stand on Article 370. Even within Congress in Assam, Kalita was virtually side-lined.”
Kalita who in past was president of Pradesh congress, and MLA from Rangia, had won Lok Sabha polls from Guwahati Lok Sabha consistency and was industry minister in Chief minister Tarun Gogoi’s cabinet.
Former chief minister, Tarun Gogoi termed Kalita’s move as opportunistic.
