The Congress has questioned "the silence" of PM Narendra Modi on BJP Parliamentarian Parvesh Verma's controversial public speech in which he called for the social boycott of Muslims. The Opposition party, while accusing the police of inaction, has demanded that the court take cognizance of the hate speech issue involving Verma and a BJP MLA Nand Kishor Gurjar even as the party targeted Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal for "keeping mum" on the issue.

"As we know, it has been more than 72 hours since Parvesh Verma, the BJP MP, has been caught speaking on camera asking for a complete boycott of a certain community. He also incited hatred and so did Nand Kishor Gurjar, one of the BJP MLAs. Nothing has been done. What is the police waiting for? Why are the courts not taking cognizance? Why is Mr Modi not speaking? What is Mr Arvind Kejriwal doing? And if this is not hypocrisy, then we wonder what is?" said Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate.
