Congress an expired injection and Kharge a puppet president: BJP

BJP on Wednesday said Mallikarjun Kharge's election as Congress president will not help the moribund party.

"Any party can elect their president and it is their internal matter. But Congress is an expired injection and whether you put the sticker of Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Kharge, Tharoor or any other, it is not going to help the party," BJP general secretary Tarun Chug told ET. "Most of the senior leaders of the party have either left or are willing to leave the party. This is in no way going to affect the national polity of the country."

Terming Kharge a puppet president of Congress, Chug said, "The party has selected a leader who is the puppet of the first family and keeps revolving around them."


The BJP general secretary also alleged that the election was not democratic and that the candidates were pre-decided and fixed.

"If it was a real election then why did Gehlot not file nomination? On whose behest, Digvijaya Singh was sent to contest the election and later turned down. Everything was decided by the Gandhis and it was just given a form of free and fair election," said Chug.
