Guwahati: Political parties including Asom Gana Parishad ( AGP) and congress have gone hammer and tong on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s auction of items he received from Assam from during his visit to state on November-December last year.

Modi is likely to auction memento of one horned Rhino, Sorai (a traditional decorative piece) and Gamocha (special Assamese towel). However political parties in Assam have criticized the auction and stated Modi has ignored the sentiment of Assam.

AGP leader Durga Das Boro said, “Modi has failed to understand the sentiment of people of the state as these items are offered to someone whom we love and respect. This is disrespect to Assam”

BJP spokesperson Shiladitya dev told ET, “Modi has been doing this for years now. Till now such auctions have yielded Rs 35 Crore which is given for girl child development. As Modi do not have family he does not preserve any gifts.”

He defended this move and said that such noble cause must be emulated by chief ministers across the country.
