Congress activists staged a demonstration accusing the BJD government in Odisha of failing to provide adequate relief to flood and cyclone affected people in Mayurbhanj.

BARIPADA: Congress activists staged a demonstration accusing the BJD government in Odisha of failing to provide adequate relief to flood and cyclone affected people in Mayurbhanj district.

Police arrested more than 100 demonstrators as they tried to enter into the Mayurbhanj district collectorate by breaking prohibitory orders.

The arrested Congress leaders included Congress Working Committee member and former MP Sushila Tiriya and district Congress president Dinakrushna.

The demonstrators slammed the state government for failing to take adequate measures during the calamities and charged the district administration with failing to provide relief to the flood victims in several areas and alleged of faulty mechanism adopted by the authorities for distribution of materials.

Many people in unaffected areas managed to grab the relief materials depriving the real flood victims, the Congress workers alleged.
