Cong warns rebels to withdraw from contest or face action

The Karnataka unit have issued a stern warning to rebels to withdraw from poll field or face disciplinary action.

BANGALORE: Refuting reports that several Congress leaders were upset over selection of candidates in many constituencies, the state unit on Wednesday issued a stern warning to rebels to withdraw from poll field or face disciplinary action.

"This is the time for war. We have to form government in the state. Rebels should cooperate and work for the success of official candidates," KPCC president M Mallikarjun Kharge told reporters here.

The central election committee had cleared 90 per cent of the names recommended by the state election committee, Kharge said despite reports that Congress Election Management Committee chairman S M Krishna and Campaign Committee Head Siddaramaiah were upset over ticket distribution.

Senior Congress leaders were reportedly upset that newcomers have been preferred for the seats, ignoring seniors' claim.

The party's decision to field Mamata Nichani, daughter of former Chief Minister Ramakrishna Hegde, in Ramanagar to fight against JDS H D Kumaraswamy also drew flak.

C M Lingappa, who represented the constituency earlier and is hoping for a ticket, has already filed his nomination.
