Cong should fight LS polls in Maharashtra on its own:MPCC

The MPCC president Prabha Rau on Sunday said that in her "personal opinion" Congress should fight next Lok Sabha elections on its own strength in the state.

Pune: The MPCC president Prabha Rau on Sunday said that in her "personal opinion" Congress should fight next Lok Sabha elections on its own strength in the state.

In an oblique reference to the coalition partner Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Rau said it was ironical that those who left Congress still retained the tag of Congress.

Rau who jointly addressed city Congress workers along with AICC General Secretary Margaret Alva said Congress never thrived on a "money culture" and got votes on the strength of its election symbol and heritage.

Referring to NCP's alliance with Shiv Sena and BJP in Pune Muncipal Corporation, Alva said it was strange that those who shared power with us at the Centre had joined hands with communal parties in Pune.
