Cong-NCP bags rest of cities

Mumbai came as the only solace for the saffron combine in the mayoral elections in several major cities on Tuesday. NCP and Congress continued their good run and defeated Sena-BJP in all other mayoral polls except Mumbai.

In Pune, NCP's Mohan Singh Rajpal has been elected mayor. Congress nominee Prasanna Jagtap will be the deputy mayor. NCP has also made gains in Pune Zilla Parishad by winning the post of president. NCP has also won the mayoral election in the neighbouring industrial township of Pimpri-Chinwad.

In another NCP bastion of Kolhapur in Western Maharashtra, Congress-NCP-Jan Surajya Party combine's Sagar Chavan has won the mayoral election. Congress-NCP have defeated the BJP-Sena in the mayoral polls for Solapur, and Amravati as well. In Nagpur, the official BJP nominee for the Zilla Parishad president's post has been defeated by a BJP rebel.
