Cong MLAs fortified at Aguada
A16th century fort which once guarded Goa from the sea-borne attack is at the centre-stage of political crisis here.
Digambar Kamat-led government, which is yet to complete two months, is sailing in troubled waters as two-member Maharashtra Gomantakwadi Party and an independent withdrawing support to it.
All attempts to save the government are made in this fort, which was transformed into a five-star hotel, overlooking the Arabian Sea. Fort Aguada Beach Resort, located just 10 kms away from the capital city of Panaji, is hosting all the close-door meetings to salvage the crumbling government.
Fifteen huge cottages are occupied by politicians and Goa legislators, who stand firm with chief minister Digambar Kamat, at least for the moment. Left battling to save his chair, Mr Kamat is holding meetings and deciding strategies camping in this hotel.
