Cong hits back at Advani
Hitting back at senior BJP leader L K Advani over his criticism of the UPA on the issue of terrorism, Congress on Thursday claimed that Parliament attack convict was arrested and let off under NDA rule two months before the incident took place.
"There is credible information that Afzal Guru was held and let off after questioning two months before the Parliament attack. This is a new fact that has come to the fore. We will investigate the matter," AICC spokesman Abhishek Singhvi reported.
He accused the BJP of hypocrisy and double facedness, saying they talk of terrorism day in and day out to deliberately generate insecurity and mislead the people.
"They used the court judgement in hijacking case as an excuse to attack the Congress and UPA on terrorism. What was their record during their government where the then Home Minister (Advani) was also the Deputy Prime Minister," he said.
Addressing a rally at Jabalpur, Advani sought to know from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh whether Afzal Guru has been given "unofficial clemency" and the number of terrorist modules busted by his government in the last three-and-a-half years.
Singhvi said that instead of misleading people at his Jabalpur rally, Advani should tell the nation what led to the sudden "capitulation" on December 31, 1999 at Kandahar.
