NEW DELHI: Congress today took strong exception to Home Minister Rajnath Singh's reported "maa ka doodh piya hai" remark at a poll rally in Uttar Pradesh and said it is sad that the one responsible for national security is using "pathetic and provocative" language.

Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said the Home Minister was issuing open threats for votes.

"HM Rajnath Singh's coarse, crude language tells us that BJP will stoop to the lowest common denominator for votes. Should HM Rajnath Singh have indulged in such pathetic, pedestrian and provocative language & open threats for soliciting votes?" he tweeted.

"HM RajnathSingh is responsible for national security. But he has no compunctions in intimidating fellow Indians for votes. Sad and shameful," he said in another tweet.

At a poll rally yesterday in Kairana, whose BJP MP Hukam Singh had raised the issue of Hindu migration, Singh was reported to have said, "Those using muscle power to terrorise people...hum dekhenge ki usne kitna mas ka doodh piya hai."
