NEW DELHI: The Congress on Thursday demanded a “thorough” inquiry into the alleged corruption in several housing projects of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).

Mumbai Regional Congress Committee chief Gurudas Kamat alleged that MMRDA commissioner T Chandrashekhar had been “misusing” powers by getting poor quality tenements constructed.

In a letter to the Prime Minister, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and the state chief minister, Mr Kamat claimed that MMRDA tenements lack basic sewage disposal facility which has led to flooding. — Agencies

He claimed that the buildings constructed in Mandala and Mankhurd suburbs were poorly designed with little space between two buildings, making it impossible to make a safe entry or exit during an emergency.

Kamat has also demanded strict action against the MMRDA Commissioner.
