HYDERABAD: People would get SMS alerts after lodging complaints in police stations in Telangana, and also receive a copy of the First Information Report by email.

The SMS alert will serve as an acknowledgement with a `petition ID', which can be used to track status of the probe through the Telangana police's website, www.tspolice.gov.in.

These facilities are part of the `Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems' (CCTNS) project.

After a successful pilot run of the project, it was given `Go Live' by the state IT Minister K T Rama Rao here today. It would be operational throughout the state now.

Home Minister Nayini Narasimha Reddy launched some other services under CCTNS including the one where status of missing-person complaints can be accessed through the police website.

For putting CCTNS in place, every police station in the state has been provided with computer systems, UPS, digital cameras and `electronic pens' with a dedicated network connectivity.
