Communist Party of India-Marxist politburo member M K Pandhe died of cardiac arrest at a hospital here in the wee hours.


NEW DELHI: Communist Party of India-Marxist politburo member M K Pandhe died of cardiac arrest at a hospital here in the wee hours today.

Pandhe, 86, died at the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital at 12:30 AM. Pandhe was admitted to the hospital last night after he complained of chest pain.

He was the also the chief of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU). Born on July 11, 1925 at Pune, Maharashtra, he joined the Communist Party in 1943. He was elected to the Polit Bureau in 1998 at the Kolkata Congress.

He was Elected President of CITU in 1999. He was also the President of All India Coal Workers Federation, Co-President International Energy and Miners Organisation, Member Joint Committees in Steel, Coal, BHEL, BEL and Port and Docks, Member, National Shipping Board, Member and National Maritime Board.
