Committee for delegation of powers to Divisional Commissioners
GUWAHATI: Assam government has constituted a committee under the Chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary V B Pyarelal to oversee the issue of delegation of further power to the Commissioner of Divisions with the aim of creating a Mini Secretariat at the divisional level.

The Committee shall examine the statutory powers now exercised by the Commissioner of Divisions and suggest measures for modification, an official release said here today.

It shall identify department-wise functions that can be delegated to Divisional Commissioners and fix modalities for such delegation.

It shall also identify minimum necessary infrastructural and organisational changes including the creation of posts required for the institution to raise it to a mini secretariat.

The committee shall also identify zonal level officers who are to be brought under direct control of the Divisional Commissioners besides examine the best practices of other states in these areas.

It shall submit its detailed report with recommendation within 30 days of the constitution of the committee.
