Commissioner clarifies on film shooting in BBMP head office

The issue came to light when Karnataka BJP Spokesperson S Prakash alleged that crew of Tamil movie Imaikaa Nodigal had shot in the BBMP premises.

BENGALURU: A day after controversy broke over shooting of a film in the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) headquarters in Bengaluru, the city corporation commissioner has clarified that a permission was given to shoot the movie in the office premises.

“We have been traditionally giving permission to shoot films in buildings and public places belonging to the BBMP. These places include parks, hospitals, roads, flyovers, underpass, Town Hall and other buildings. Similarly, as per the guidelines of the Information and Public Relations Department and the BBMP, we have given permission to shoot Imaikaa Nodigal,” Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad has said in the press release.

The issue came to light when Karnataka BJP Spokesperson S Prakash alleged that crew of Tamil movie Imaikaa Nodigal had shot in the BBMP premises. “The movie has been shot by covering the Kempegowda emblem and the BBMP board to convert it into CBI office in the movie. Lead actor Nayanthara is also seen sitting in the Commissioner’s chamber,” Prakash had alleged.

He had criticised BBMP for letting the office premises to shoot movies in exchange of fee. “Will the government allow shooting of films in Vidhana Soudha too?” he said.

However, the Commissioner has clarified that the BBMP was not giving permission for monetary benefits, but keeping in mind the growth of film industry. “We let our space to shoot movies for a small honorarium. The intention is to help the film industry and to create a friendly atmosphere for all,” the Commissioner has said.
