Comments on demonetisation distorted: N Chandrababu Naidu, BJP deflects Mamata's criticism

NEW DELHI: The BJP on Wednesday turned the heat on West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee for her attacks on Narendra Modi government but sought to evade confrontation with her Andhra Pradesh counterpart Chandrababu Naidu for his criticism of the implementation of currency replacement exercise.

“Mamata has become the champion of corrupt. She is not interested in fighting corruption but shielding the corrupt,” BJP national secretary Sidharth Nath Singh said reacting to Mamata’s barbs against central government for a raid Tamil Nadu chief secretary.

“Being in a constitutional position, she understands the process of law. Despite that she is interfering when the agencies are doing their job and thereby politicising a matter,” Singh said deploring Trinamool chief for “cherry picking” the raids in Chennai for political purposes. Singh, who is also BJP incharge for AP, however, appeared defensive over Naidu’s criticism.

“We have seen from November 8, how Chandrababu Naidu has put in 2-3 hours on a daily basis to make demonetisation a success in AP. What he is raising is nothing different from what was said by PM on November 8 that there should be least inconvenience to people.

In that direction, CM indicated to the government to expedite money supply. And the government is doing that,” Singh said.
