Just ahead of the monsoon session, opposition parties have demanded that the BJP must come clean on the citizenship of Union MoS for home Nisith Pramanik.

While Congress MP from Assam, Ripun Bora, has already sought an enquiry into his citizenship status, Left Front chairman Biman Bose has also demanded a probe. West Bengal’s ruling party Trinamool Congress has demanded that Pramanik’s citizenship documents be made public.

Nisith Pramanik, a BJP MP from Coochbehar, was inducted into the Council of Ministers on July 7.

Trinamool minister Indranil Sen took to twitter and said: “Shocked and stunned to learn that Union minister Nisith Pramanik might be a citizen of Bangladesh. This is of alarming concern to the security of India if an incumbent minister is a foreign nation.”

However, BJP’s Sayantan Bose told ET that “the allegation is baseless... They can go to court”. Another BJP leader Samik Bhattacharya said those raising doubts should give proof.
