NEW DELHI: Cooperation in combating maritime crimes and conducting search and rescue operations came up for a discussion at a meeting between top officials of Coast Guards of India and Bangladesh here yesterday.

Several issues, including training for Bangladesh Coast Guard personnel, cooperation on combating maritime crimes, maritime search and rescue and pollution response at sea were discussed during the meeting, an official release said.

The meeting is a step ahead in institutionalisation of cooperation between the two Coast Guards, it added.

The Bangladesh Coast Guard delegation would also visit Mumbai and Kolkata before leaving for Dhaka on April 10.

During its visit to Mumbai and Kolkata, the delegation would be briefed on various facets of Indian Coast Guard operations and shipbuilding in India, the release said.

While Rear Admiral Mohammad Makbul Hossain, Director General of Bangladesh of Coast Guard, led his delegation, Indian Coast Guard delegation was headed by Vice Admiral HCS Bisht, it said.
