Colony regularisation move a pre-poll gimmick: Arvind Kejriwal

NEW DELHI: Terming it a "political gimmick", the Aam Aadmi Party today said that the Centre's move to reguralise 895 unauthorised colonies in Delhi, was taken with an eye on the impending Assembly polls.

The party said the decision was akin to then Sheila Dixit government's move to give provisional certificates and then forget about such colonies.

"Wid an eye on elections, Cabinet has decided to regularise unauthorised colonies of Delhi "from 1.6.2015". This is nothing but a pre-poll gimmick, akin to Sheila's provisional certificates. Congress forgot these colonies after elections.

"People know that U-turn BJP govt will also forget them after elections. People have faith only in AAP becoz AAP does what it says," Kejriwal tweeted.

Party leader and former urban development minister of Delhi, Manish Sisoda said his party will come up with a law on unauthorised colonies. He said, by the Centre's order, the residences in these unauthorised colonies can "neither be registered nor can people there apply for any loan."

"The government is trying to fool 60 lakh residents. With this kind of order, the residences cannot be registered nor can they apply for any loan.

"After this decision, the municipal corporations can neither build roads nor can they lay sewer lines. AAP will immediately bring a law on this," Sisodia tweeted.

In a decision that will benefit about 60 lakh people in poll-bound Delhi, Union Cabinet today approved an Ordinance to regularise 895 unauthorised colonies which have come up till June 1 this year.
